From feeding to grooming, litter box management to health care, here are is a quick guide to caring for cats.

  • Make sure the windows are netted in case they live in a high rise building. One of the most overlooked fact with cats is that they are great jumpers. And hence the precaution.
  • Invest in cat trees and scratchers which help the cats use their natural instincts and remain active when they are indoors. These items will also keep them from developing destructive behavior.
  • Give them ample toys such as tunnels and simulation toys to keep them active and keep them from getting obese or develop other health issues.
  • Have a standard feeding routine i.e. 3 times for adults and 4 times for a 6 month to one year old kittens and 5 times for babies.
  • Feed the cats fresh meals. Avoid dry food as much as possible as they are mostly carbs and cats do not tend to hydrate as much as dogs. This may lead to urinary tract diseases in felines because of low moisture intake.
  • Take the pets to the vets for routine checkups and vaccinations. Do not ignore signs of extreme behavior, loss in appetite, unhealthy fur, etc. They might be the reasons for early onset of certain ailments.
  • Regular grooming is crucial too for their overall wellbeing. It also helps cat parents identify any issues with regards to skin and coat health.
